Dr Senen Gonzalez

Dr Senen Gonzalez is a Consultant Physician in Rehabilitation Medicine with special interests in the management of osteoporosis, neurological rehabilitation and spasticity management including with injectable medications.

Dr Gonzalez has extensive experience working in both the public and private health sectors and currently has public appointments within Northern Health, Austin Health and Monash Health.  He also works privately with admitting rights to Dorset Rehabilitation Centre in Pascoe Vale, Brunswick Private Hospital in Brunswick, as well as private consulting rooms in Niddrie and works closely with allied health therapists, often conducting joint assessments for both the benefit and convenience of his patients.

Rehabilitation Medicine entails the management of disability, not just physically, but also cognitively, psychologically with a holistic approach on improving functional outcomes, whether that be return to walking, return to driving, return to work, or return to leisure or other meaningful activities, to name a few. As a rehabilitation physician, Dr Gonzalez is equipped with the skills in maximising physical, cognitive and adaptive function in the context of many common medical presentations such as multi-trauma, stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, neurological and orthopaedic conditions.  Dr Gonzalez not only works together with his patients to set and work towards specific goals, but also embraces a multi-disciplinary team approach with allied health input.  Dr Gonzalez has established an extensive network of connections with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, neuropsychologists, clinical psychologists, dieticians, orthotists all working together with the same common goal of improving our patients’ level of function.

With the roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) nearing completion, Dr Gonzalez is perfectly equipped to assist with NDIS matters in relation to:

  • providing evidence of patients’ disability
  • patient goal setting
  • advice regarding specific services and supports tailored to the individual that can be requested to be included in their NDIS plan

Special interests include:

  • Spasticity management, including with injectable medication
  • Osteoporosis management

A valid medical referral from another medical specialist or general practitioner is required in order to be seen.   Dr Gonzalez also accepts TAC, Workcover and DVA patients.  After hours consultations are available on a limited basis.
